April 11th - Bitterness Subsiding..?

So, after 9 months of unpaid work, after 20 grad scheme applications, after 30+ job applications, after many nights crying into my pillow (not strictly true)... TWO JOBS COME IN ONE WEEK?!?!

I should be happy, in fact I am happy, but seriously, two in one week just makes me want to get some sort of large fish, possibly a trout, and smack the world in it's hypothetical face. It's not fair, why couldn't one of them come 6 months ago? It also appears that as an annoying consequence of my double-success, anyone who I tell the story to immediately thinks the phrase 'well it's like buses, two come at once' will put my frustration at ease. But it doesn't. After all, when have you ever seen someone who's waited for half an hour at a bus stop only to see two buses pulling up after eachother, laugh and say 'oh what a lot of fun'?

Well anyway, I have a job which is rather great. We'll have to see if the bitterness will carry on. But in the meantime, I have a month to prepare/do nothing so if you need me, I'll be out in the garden basking in the April sunshine, possibly drinking a strong cocktail

Bad News/Good News Sandwich

I have a sandwich. Some 'bad news filler'  in between 'good news bread'.

So the first bit of good news is that my boss had her last day today which might just spell the end for my menial jobs. Nearly cracked out the champagne and party poppers, but thought that might be mildly inappropriate.
Bad news is that on her last day, I think she celebrated by giving me nothing but menial jobs; spent about an hour taking the staples out of leaflets so they could be recycled (not even sure if that's needed - surely one tiny bit of metal doesn't ruin the whole recycling industry?), then I shredded paper, then I carried a few boxes around. Super fun.
But the second bit of good news is that I have been invited back for a second interview tomorrow for that job I was interviewed for on Monday, and they want me to meet the director. Good stuff.

Awkward thing is that they'll probably make a decision tomorrow and I have another inteview for a job I really want on Tuesday. In the words of my wise father I should just 'be dishonest and don't tell them. If you get the other job, you'll just have to man up and tell them. Worse things have happened at sea' - cracking advice.

March 29th - Desk Games

My boss is retiring on Thursday, and following lots of whisperings it turns out someone else is being made redundant. Thinking of ways to profit from the spare desks I'm intending on either;

a) playing musical chairs to see if anyone joins in
b) using them as islands of land to jump between in my eternal struggle to avoid falling into the ocean (floor)
c) stacking them up to build some sort of fort

No more job news apart from I still don't have one yet.

March 28th - The 'No' Interview

It's never a good sign when the only answer you can give is 'well. erm. no', especially when it is received by a distinct look of disappointment. This interview was for a quite basic role but with a broad range of tasks and duties. So with every box that I ticked, I left another one worryingly empty. And there was no way of bending the truth or telling a white lie  as answering yes to questions such as 'have you used *** computer program?' and 'can you create webpages' would inevitably bring follow up questions and awkwardness when they find out I have no idea what I'm on about. They expect to make a decision later on this week so I am bracing myself for the answer that I was so prolific in giving; No.

March 25th - All About Who You Know

Things are looking up, I've got another interview a week on Tuesday! My Dad knows someone who works for the company so I'm going to have a talk with them next week to get some inside information. It's brilliant having contacts so close to home..
Also, a guy I know with phoned me up today about the Jacobs graduate scheme. OK they're an engineering firm which isn't what I want to do at all, but they have a sustainability sector and will be taking on graduates soon. Might try and get him to put in a few good words for me.

In other news, I tried to feed some ducks at lunchtime (shows how sad my life has become) and they swam away. So now I repel jobs AND animals?! This sucks.

March 24th - A Typical Day

So much for a busy week. Today I;

Wrote one email
Put two bits of paper in a folder
Shredded paper
Put shreddings in a bin

March 23rd - Another interview!

Day off. Got myself an interview on Monday. Proper job!
Signed up for this SustainabilityLive event in May. Hopefully I’ll have found a job by then but if not, these kind of events sound great for networking and getting your CV out there.
